Accessing information on immigration detention and deportation in Canada: Toward carceral transparency
This presentation will focus on accessing information on immigration detention and deportation using access to information (ATI) requests in Canada. The discussion will be situated within the broader context of what we (as co-investigators working on the Prison Transparency Project) call a ‘crisis of transparency’ in Canada in relation to accessing carceral sites like immigration detention centres and information about them.
The presentation will consider the current state of ATI requests on immigration detention and deportation in Canada and outline some steps toward greater carceral transparency and accountability, particularly in light of human rights abuses and concerns about systemic inequalities.
