DESCRIPTION:Ce webinaire présente une conférence sur le thème de l’impact du profilage racial. / This webinar presents a conference on the topic of the impact of racial profiling. \nWatch the recording \nVisionner l’enregistrement \nAbstract: Using the critical race methodology of composite counter storytelling\, the following presentation explores Black youth experiences with the police in Toronto. This approach aims to counter the notion of ‘equality before the law’ and demonstrate how some legal criminal justice actors\, such as the police\, perpetuate the marginalized status of Black youth through racial profiling and the process of criminalization. \nRésumé: En utilisant la méthodologie du contre-récit (counter storytelling)de la théorie critique de la race\, la présentation suivante explorera les expériences des jeunes Noirs avec la police à Toronto. Cette approche vise à contrer la notion « d’égalité devant la loi » et à démontrer comment certains acteurs de la justice pénale\, comme la police\, perpétuent la marginalisation des jeunes Noirs par le profilage racial et le processus de criminalisation. \nPar Dr. Kanika Samuels-Wortley \n\nEN – Dr. Kanika Samuels-Wortley is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology at Toronto Metropolitan University and is currently a Visiting Fellow at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) at Australian National University. Her research centres race and racism\, youth engagement in crime\, victimization\, policing\, and critical race theory. \nFR – Dr. Kanika Samuels-Wortley est professeure adjointe au Département de Criminologie de la Toronto Metropolitan University et est présentement chercheure invitée à la School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) à l’Australian National University.
